The Salvation Army operates two hostels and one outreach centre in Cardiff. The largest is a 66 bed hostel which also has a substance misuse rehabilitation programme and skills training as part of its function.
Focus On has worked with the Salvation Army in Cardiff since 2006. The majority of qualifications delivered have been Management, either Certificates and Diplomas or Management Apprenticeships at both Level 3 and Level 5. Business and Administration L3 Apprenticeship and the Learning and Development Assessor and Internal Verifier Awards have been notable exceptions to this.
The Centre Manager – Lee Ball – at Ty Gobaith, the largest hostel, says: “Undertaking this qualification (L5 Diploma in Management) has been far more beneficial for me personally than I ever envisaged it would. It has led me to change an amount of my management practice and I use a lot of the reporting formats that were needed for my qualification, in my day to day management role. My Deputy Manager and Administration Manager have also undertaken qualifications with Focus On and I have seen similar improvements in their performance and working practices”.
